Why the power system is divided into several protections zones?
The power system is divided into several protection zones in
order to provide selectivity in the operation of protective devices used in the
system. When fault occurs in the system, the protective devices employed in the
particular region of fault alone must be operated and isolate the faulty region
from the healthier one of the power system. If the power system is not divided
into several protection zones, unwanted operation of more than one circuit
breaker may occur.
